From Wish to Family: Stressing a Preconception Period in a Curriculum as an Important Part of Midwifery Scope of Practice

Infertility rates are increasing worldwide. Young adults and teens should be counselled on what lifestyle choices affect their ability to conceive. Midwives are responsible for reproductive health and should offer advice on this topic. We conducted a study among midwifery students examining their knowledge of risk factors that threaten the ability to conceive. Based on the results, we developed a module on pre-conceptional health to be integrated into midwifery studies.
