Measurement of dn/dT and dk/dT of optical crystals, ceramics, and chalcogenide glasses between 80K and 1050K

2017
We describe the measurement of transmission and reflection of selected materials between 0.2 and 20 microns between 80K and 1050K at the UK MoD-Industry STAAR Facility. The measurements are used to derive the temperature dependent optical coefficients dn/dT, dk/dT. We relate these measured values to predictions from a computational multi-phonon absorption MatLab® model and further describe use of this model to interpolate the data and perform limited extrapolations. Worked examples are shown for well-known and characterised materials together with some of the new and emerging glasses from the EPSRC supported Chalcogenide Advanced Manufacturing Partnership (ChAMP).
