Methods of Simulation and Manipulation for the Evaluation of Figure Skating Jumps

2006
Modern methods of modelling and simulation of human movement show capabilities for new knowledge of efficiency in figure skating jumps. The Model of the figure skater describes the mainly anthropometrical and kinematical properties in a user-friendly manner. Based on video recording the motion including the phases preliminary, free flight and landing is simulated. By means of the simulation results and a direct comparison of skaters it is possible to get statements about advantages and efficiency of different jump techniques. Finally the manipulation of total angular momentum and angular velocity is shown as an example to describe the capabilities of parameter variations in quadruple jumps.
