1990
In the last twenty-five years there have been many changes in the methods and techniques of transportation planning and research in Amsterdam. Policy issues are different too; they are more diverse and more specific. The new type of policy issue has strongly influenced developments in the transportation planning profession. In this paper the developments are described and the question is raised what we can learn from them. The main conclusion is that the black box - the transportation model- has been opened. More insight into the direct consequences of policy alternatives was required. Therefore the basis of the transportation models - transportation research - had to be improved and expanded, now that the researcher can no longer hide behind the mysteries of the transportation model.
