IMMUNOLOGICAL EVIDENCE FOR THE SPECIFIC STATUS OF DISCOGLOSSUS PICTUS OTTH, 1837 AND D. SARDUS TSCHUDI, 1837, WITH NOTES ON THE FAMILIES DISCOGLOSSIDAE GÜNTHER, 1858 AND BOMBINIDAE FITZINGER, 1826 (AMPHIBIA SALIENTIA)

2013
SUMMARY Immunological reactions tested according to Libby's photronreflectrometric technique confirm that Discoglossus sardus Tschudi, 1837 is a species and not a subspecies of D. pictus Otth, 1837. In addition, the considerable serological distance between Discoglossus and Alytes could mean that they pertain to different families. Other data are cited which distinguish Discoglossus from Alytes and Bombina and which seem to justify locating the former in the family of Discoglossidae Gunther, 1858 and the latter two in the family Bombinidae Fitzinger, 1826.
