DESIGN OPTIONS AND SOLUTIONS FOR THE NEW SINGAPORE CIRCLE LINE - PHASE 1

2004
Phase I of the new Circle Line in Singapore (a.k.a. Marina Line) is designed as a medium rail transit system running underground from the existing Dhoby Ghaut (DBG) Station, under the Bras Basah Road to Marina Centre and further under Nicoll Highway to the National Stadium. In this phase the line has six stations, all equipped with platform screen doors, and includes a permanent siding. The distance between stations varies from 600 m to 1500 m. The trackways also extend south of the DBG Station as overruns (tail-tracks). In the future, the tunnels will be connected to the other sections of the new Circle Line, starting from the Old Airport Road Station. This paper summarizes the unique design challenges encountered at the Dhoby Ghaut Station and Boulevard Siding, discussing design alternatives and the recommended solutions. (A)
