Recent market research shows that the average age of irrigation designers and retailers in South Africa is 57-years-old. It makes one wonder why there are so few young people in the industry? Indeed, it's somewhat of a mysterious trend: which tends to prompt more questions than answers.What happens to all the young people who attend the SABI courses? Why don't we see them in the industry? Are we paying too little? Is the job satisfaction too low? Or is the market just over-supplied with irrigation designers and dealers? Is the profit in the industry too low to enable companies to employ these young students?
