Transportation Infrastructure Safety Improvement with Optial Fiber Distributed Sensing

Communication backbone are integrated to transportation infrastructures which can be exposed to natural or human hazards. Optical fiber distributed sensing is implemented in integrity monitoring solutions for risk mitigation by using the existing backbone. A 20 year long field experience is presented and discussed.
