Study of cable short circuit in VSC DC systems

2015
Voltage source converter (VSC) DC systems are a new and emerging technology. These systems offer advantages over AC systems but also present concerns, such as transient fault currents. VSCs are not protected against high fast-transient overcurrent caused by DC cable short circuit. Thus, DC system behavior under fault conditions must be studied to design protections which promptly interrupt and isolate faults. The paper investigates the response of two-level VSC DC systems to DC cable short circuit.
