Design of One-way Structure for Spatial EM Wave Based on the Magnetic Surface Plasmon States

2019
In this paper, a novel one-way transmission structure for spatial electromagnetic (EM) wave is proposed based on the one-way edge effect of Magnetic Surface Plasmon States (MSPs). The proposed structure can transform the planar wave with particular linear polarization into surface wave on the ferrite. To block the backward propagation of the surface wave, copper strips are attached to the surface of ferrite. By this way, a oneway transmission structure is achieved. The incident spatial EM wave can be transmitted along one direction with a good transmittance, but will be absorbed by the structure along the opposite direction. To verify the proposed one-way structure, a prototype operating at 5.9-8.4 GHz is designed, fabricated and tested. Simulated and measured results show that the structure possesses good forward transmission and backward absorption properties.
