Brazilgeneratesapproximately 78 million tons ofSolidUrbanWaste (MSW) per year, 2% of Health Services Waste (RSS), withdrugsstanding out for theirenvironmentalimpactonaquaticorganismsandvarioustypesofcancers in humans. As of Law 12.305 / 2010, NationalSolidWastePolicy (PNRS), new perspectives haveemerged for thecontrolofwaste in Brazil. In theStateof Paraiba, Law 9,646 of 2011, provides for therules for the final destinationofthedisposalofexpiredorunfit medicines for use, theabsenceofsuitableplacesisobserved, and it is common practicetodisposeofthem in domesticwaste. The presentstudyaimedtoaddresstheknowledgeandcompliancewiththedrugdisposallegislationbyusersof a Basic Family Health Unit (UBSF) in thecityof Monteiro - PB. It wasfoundthat 75.7% oftheparticipantshad medicines storedat home and 68% discarded medicines in householdwaste, 21% in a toilet, 9% deliveredtothe UBSF and 2% donatedbeforematurity. It isconcludedthatthereis a lackofknowledgeofthelegislation, although 81.8% are awareoftheprobableenvironmentalrisksofinadequatedisposal.
