Effect of braze processing on SCS-6/β21S titanium matrix composites : tensile and microstructural properties of SCS-6/β21S titanium matrix composites were evaluated following processing with Ti-Cu-Ni based brazing filler metals

1994
This study was undertaken to investigate the effects of braze processing on the microstructure and tensile properties of [0/90] s laminates of SCS-6 SiC fiber-reinforced β21 S (Ti-15Mo-2.7Nb-3Al-0.25Si, wt-%) titanium matrix composites (TMC). TMC panels were exposed to brazing processes employing two forms of commercially available Ti-15Cu-15Ni brazing filler metal. Tensile specimens from the panels were tested at room temparature, 1200 o F (649 o C), and 1500 o F (816 o C), and the resulting properties were compared to those of TMC specimens subjected to only a stabilization heat treatment
