The lamella structure of Al-Mg-Si matrix nanocomposites with isotropically high strength

2020
Abstract The anisotropy usually appears after the deformation and is difficult to control in Al alloys. The high and isotropic strength was achieved simultaneously by cross accumulative roll bonding processes in this work due to the controlled nanoparticle distributions in different directions. The hierarchical structure with bimodal-sized grain and precipitate sizes was found in the composites, resulting in considerable tensile performance. The ultimate tensile strength and yield strength were ∼ 450 MPa and 380-390 MPa after CARB processes, respectively. This work provides new methods for fabricating Al matrix composite sheets with high and isotropic strength.
