Current situation and prospect of hot metal pretreatment technology

Hot metal pretreatment has become one of the important production procedures in modern steelmaking plants. Its main purpose is to reduce the content of harmful elements ( S,Si and P) in hot metal and provide qualified hot metal for steelmaking furnaces. This paper describes the principle and process of hot metal pretreatment,and introduces the development of hot metal pretreatment techonology in foreign countries. Advanced technologies for pre-desulphurization,pre-desiliconization and predephosphorization of hot metal at home and abroad are analyzed,and a comparison is made between two desulfurization methods,namely kinetics rabbling stirring method ( KR method) and injection method. It is found out that KR method enjoys better dynamic conditions and helps to realize deep desulfurization with low cost desulfurizing agents ( CaO).
