Fabrication of self supporting 64Zn targets for fusion-evaporation studies

2021
Abstract Self supporting targets of  64Zn having thickness range (448 ± 27 – 1294 ± 40) μ g/cm 2 were fabricated from ∼ 50 mg of the target material. Vacuum evaporation by resistive heating technique was used to achieve the high evaporation yield. Use of a specially designed pinhole type crucible source minimized the solid angle of evaporation during the fabrication process. Thickness and purity of the fabricated targets were determined by techniques viz., α -transmission method, Rutherford Backscattering Spectrometry (RBS) and Energy Dispersive X-ray Analysis (EDXA). The fabricated targets contained negligible impurities. A target of thickness (513 ± 20) μ g/cm 2 , utilized for a fusion-evaporation study was found to be durable.
