Determinantes de la supervivencia empresarial en la industria alimentaria de México, 2003-2008

2015
The food industry in Mexico constitutes one of the most important sectors of the domestic economy, sustaining the internal market. As part of the manufacturing industry, foodstuffs account for33% of companies, absorb one-fifth of the personnel working, and stand out as the biggest buyer of machinery for packaging and packing, accounting for approximately 40% of the total value of purchases. Due to its importance, in this study, we analyze the factors determining the probability of marketplace survival for companies in this industrial sector. With data from the Annual Industrial Survey 2003-2008, we applied a Cox proportional hazard model, finding that geographical location, size, product differentiation, business format, and differences by branch are the determining factors increasing the probability of survival.
