Wide tuning characteristics and passive mode-locking of a Ce/sup 3+/-Er/sup 3+/-ZBLAN fiber laser

Wide tuning over 120 nm and passive mode locking of a Ce/sup 3+/-Er/sup 3+/-ZBLAN fiber laser by a semiconductor saturable-absorber is described for the first time. A Q-switched mode-locked output was obtained with 400 MHz repetition rate.
