The Future of Simulation in Healthcare Safety and System Improvement

This chapter provides a framework for understanding how synergies between well-established human factors science and simulation can benefit healthcare delivery. We review examples of modern and forward-looking applications of simulation and describe where human factors and ergonomics can be leveraged to ensure simulations are effective at minimizing harm and improving patient outcomes, as well as future directions of simulation-based systems improvement that can enrich and improve patient care.
