Integrating Electrical and Operational Load Models for Control Evaluation

This paper describes extending a real-time 4-zone Medium Voltage DC Shipboard Power System (MVDC SPS) simulation with an operational load model. Prior efforts have resulted in two separate simulation platforms 1) 4-zone MVDC SPS and 2) vBOLDPower, a non-real-time operational load modeling tool. This paper focuses on combining these two tools into a single multi-domain real-time simulation. This will allow the power system and associated controllers to interact with a realistic load model and further development of a system-relevant environment for evaluating system-level SPS controls. This paper's primary contribution is the interface design and cosimulation approach for an integrated electrical and operational load real-time simulation testbed. Demonstrations of this work are given highlighting the importance and relevance for control evaluation.
