A crosstalk-aware and energy-saving survivable RSCA for online prioritized traffic in SDM-EONs

2021
Inter-core crosstalk due to the presence of multiple cores is one of the major issues to be taken care of in space division multiplexing based elastic optical networks (SDM-EONs). Again due to the random occurrence of spectral fragmentations in online SDM-EON, many high-priority connections get blocked. The underlying SDM-EON also suffers from ample data loss even if a single link in the network fails. Survivability is ensured in this paper by using multipath based approach. Again, survivability issue deserves enough redundancy in the network devices which again increases energy consumption in the network. Multipath based survivability is used in this paper. To address the aforementioned issues simultaneously, this paper proposes a novel energy-efficient and crosstalk-aware multipath based survivable routing, spectrum and core allocation scheme ECM-P-RSCA, for prioritized traffic in online SDM-EONs. Extensive simulation results prove the efficacy of ECM-P-RSCA over a non-prioritized similar scheme in terms of various network parameters such as bandwidth blocking, energy consumption, spectral occupation rate, crosstalk generated per slot ratio etc. It is also observed that with increase in number of cores in SDM-EON, crosstalk per slot ratio increases.
