The Synchronization of Distributed Databases

1990
Abstract This paper describes, with examples from a real-world medical environment, major problems of employing distributed, replicated databases for clinical care information. Specific problems discussed include patient identification, synchronization of data transfer among systems relating to clock time and event, distributed concurrency control, and system unavailability. Solutions, where available, are presented.
