Conception, Implementation and Operation of Large-Scale Metabolic Phenotyping Centres: Phenome Centres

Abstract This chapter describes the conception of dedicated phenome centres for undertaking metabolic phenotyping studies. It describes the history of the first such major centre that was developed at Imperial College London for epidemiology studies as a legacy of the 2012 London Olympic Games, and the allied centre for clinical studies also at Imperial College. The operating and governance principles are described and some details are given of successfully implemented projects. The extension to an international network of phenome centres is also explained.
