Effect of Polyvinyl Alcohol Coating Microbottle Resonator for Sodium Hypochlorite Concentration Sensing

2021
Abstract This research paper explored whispering gallery modes through polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) coated microbottle resonator (MBR) as a sodium hypochlorite sensor. The silica fiber SMF-28 has been used to form the MBR by a technique called “soften-and-compress”. Three parameters for the MBR size name as bottle length L b , stem diameter of D s and bottle diameter of D b . The MBR than coated with PVA and formed three different sizes named A, B and C. The MBR-PVA coupled with tapered microfiber 2 μ m diameter and manage to have Q-factor > 10 5 respectively. The sodium hypochlorite with concentrations range from 1% pmm to 6% pmm, which is then used with three MBR-PVA sizes as sodium hypochlorite sensor for study purposes. The performance of the MBR-PVA defined as excellent, with sensitivity analysed through transmitted power and wavelength shifting. The linearity for all MBR-PVA size can have >98%, which is defined as good performance after all. The stability testing and repeatability cycle showed by these MBR-PVA so promising as sodium hypochlorite sensor.
