A new assembly of a Wells-Dawson polyoxometalate-based iron(III) coordination complex hybrid: Synthesis, crystal structure, thermal and electrochemical properties
2019
Abstract A new polyoxometalate-based iron(III) complex, [FeCl(dmso) 5 ] 3 [α-P 2 W 18 O 62 ]·4C 2 H 6 OS ( I ), has been synthesized at room temperature and characterized by routine methods. The crystal structure of I can be described as a supramolecular assembly constructed from [FeCl(dmso) 5 ] 2+ cations and [α-P 2 W 18 O 62 ] 6− clusters, which are used as building blocks and are interconnected through weak C H⋯O and C H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds. The thermal stability and electrochemical behavior of I have been investigated. Cyclic voltammetry reveals four couples of redox waves with a well separated pseudo-reversible iron (III/II) couple occurring at 0.360 V/SCE mean potential and indicates a diffusion-controlled redox process.
