IGCC power plant SVZ Schwarze Pumpe (BGL gasifier)

2000
After the German reunification in 1990, the Schwarze Pumpe towngas plant in the German Democratic Republic was converted within a short period of time from producing towngas from local lignite to making synthesis gas for methanol and fuel gas for Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) power generation from a wide variety of solid and liquid wastes, residues and contaminated materials. Further extension plans include the conversion of the existing grate-gasification technology to the British Gas/Lurgi slagging gasification process (BGL) operating under elevated pressure, offering additional advantages for the new application. 3 refs., 3 figs., 1 tab.
