A depressant for oil fractions

1984
A polyethylene (PE) fraction, soluble in an initiator solvent and a by product of production of high pressure polyethylene, is proposed for use as a depressant for oil fractions. Addition of this polyethylene fraction does not color the oil fraction, improves the filterability of diesel fuel and increases its cetane number (TsCh) by 1 to 2 points. Example. 0.01 to 0.15 percent of the cited polyethylene fraction, a by product of the production of low pressure polyethylene (PENP), is added to diesel fuel. The paraffin precipitation point, the filterability onset point and the pour point are cited in degrees Celcius both without the polyethylene and with 0.001 percent polyethylene. The figures are: -6; -9 and -17 and -9; -15 and -21, respectively. When the polyethylene content is 0.15 percent, these figures are -9; -25 and -36 degrees, respectively.
