Harmonics in electrical industrial systems: A case study in a steel manufacturing facility

2011
Theme Power Quality has been increasingly receiving attention in electrical engineering research, especially that directed to the industrial sector. Harmonics are a disturbance that have a substantial impact on the system. It has normally been caused by features of the electrical system that has changed over time because of the intensive insertion of electronic equipment and arc devices. This work studies the main features of a real steel facility, specifically some important production equipment that is directly associated with the generation and contribution of this disturbance to the system. This paper presents a diagnosis and analysis of harmonics in a real industrial electrical system, held in the V & M do BRASIL plant, discussing the results of measurements carried out at different points of the internal system, as well considerations about the associated manufacturing process.
