The Politics of Aging in a Majority-Minority Nation

2015
This chapter will explore the nuances and complexities of politics, aging, ethnicity and public policy within the prism of one subset of aging and diversity: Latino baby boomers. This chapter explores these issues and suggests directions for future policy research and legislative ideas for a more proactive response to the reality of a nation that is becoming majority-minority as it grows older. This chapter will also provide a deeper examination of what it means that older persons are an influential segment of the electorate and also discuss how current controversies over entitlement reforms and budgetary politics influence the aging of the Latino population.
