Example-based stylized Trajectory Synthesis of falling leaf

2010
In this paper, we present an algorithm for synthesizing the trajectory of falling leaf which can be used to produce stylized and expressive falling leaves animation. In this algorithm, the movement of falling leaves is divided into the macro-and micro-movement at two levels. The macro-movement can describe the falling leaves' movement trend and the micro-movement is in charge of expressing the movement details. For most animators, it is relatively easier to describe the falling leaves movement trend. However, if the animator hopes demonstrate the falling movement with artistic effect, it would take him an amount of time to enrich the movement details. This algorithm allows the animator draft manually the movement trend of falling leaf according to the development and scene required in the story firstly, then extracts the movement details from the examples in order to synthesize a new movement trajectory. This movement trajectory will not only suit for the plot, but also have some similar movement details with the classic traditional animations. This method can realize the reuse of movement trajectory and style from classical animations. Furthermore, it improve the efficiency of production to a certain extend.
