Specific Aspects of Football in Recreational and Competitive Sport

2016
Injury prevention strategies in football need detailed knowledge and epidemiological data about injury pattern. According to different circumstances in recreational and competitive football, injury prevention concepts handle a wide range of physical and psychological aspects. Sport-specific adaptations of the musculoskeletal and myofascial system cause different changes in the kicking leg and supporting leg and the lumbar-pelvic-HIP area of the football player. These changes may result in musculoskeletal overload and result in overuse complaints and injuries. Injury prevention strategies should include multimodal aspects like the team training, individual training, core stability, regeneration, and recovery. Female and adolescent football players in particular need intensive injury prevention programs, e.g., 11+ or other neuromuscular exercises, because of their higher risk of severe injuries.
