IF YOU BUILD IT, THEY WILL COME
2015
When I was about eleven or twelve years old I wrote a play. I don’t remember much about the play, but I do remember it was about Dracula. Mercifully, it has been lost in the mists of antiquity, but, at the time, I thought it was pretty good. Only problem was, I had no venue in which to stage my masterpiece. Somehow I hit upon the idea of installing a theater in an abandoned chicken house on my Granddaddy’s property. I cleaned the thing out, my Mom helped me purchase the materials, and my Dad showed me how to build rudimentary seats and a stage. My friends and I divvied up the parts, rehearsed, got costumes, and finally the day came when we were to perform.
