Dual frequency cavity resonator for atomic manipulation and spectroscopy

2009
We propose a new approach for the design of a cavity for atom vapor based devices, where atomic manipulation via two frequencies is required. The cavity provides a homogenous field at two different frequency bands −6.8GHz and 2MHz; the first frequency is supported by a cylindrical resonator with conductive walls and dielectric bases, the second frequency is applied from an external source and penetrates into the cavity by taking advantage of the skin effect phenomenon of the resonator thin metal walls. In the specific design presented here, the cavity contains a glass cell with Rubidium vapor and enables the two-photon manipulation of the 5 2 S 1/2 ground state manifold.
