Urchin-like Bi(OH)SO4 ⋅ H2O fabricated by anodization and its conversion into flower-like Bi2S3 via anion exchange

2012
Abstract We report here the first artificial fabrication of riomarinaite (Bi(OH)SO 4  ⋅ H 2 O), a new mineral found in 2000 in Italy. Urchin-like Bi(OH)SO 4  ⋅ H 2 O lump-assembled films were obtained by potentiostatic anodization of bismuth electrodes in H 2 SO 4 solution. The dissolution–precipitation mechanism can account for the formation of Bi(OH)SO 4  ⋅ H 2 O. The urchin-like Bi(OH)SO 4  ⋅ H 2 O served as precursor to prepare flower-like Bi 2 S 3 by anion exchange. Photoelectrochemical property and wettability of the prepared urchin-like Bi(OH)SO 4  ⋅ H 2 O and flower-like Bi 2 S 3 films have also been investigated.
