Multifaktorproduktivität in den Volkswirtschaftlichen Gesamtrechnungen

The productivity of an economy is an indicator of its performance and at the same time a decisive factor for future material prosperity. Usually, the focus is on labour productivity. This article looks at an alternative productivity measure, multifactor productivity. It is not yet part of the publication programme of official statistics in Germany but can be calculated with national accounts data. Starting from the theoretical derivation, we present two different indicators for multifactor productivity and analyse their results both for the economy as a whole and for important sub-sectors.
