The goal of this thesis is to explore the role of intercultural education and school in female students' identity finding, considering that female students are a specific group which has been marginalized in different forms in society, all based on gender. This thesis provides human rights frame, considers the role of feminist movement and its legacy along with the things that still hadn't been won in the fight: body and appearance as a field of conflict between patriarchal society and women. This paper gives example of womens' oppression through hair as intersection of identity markers among women, especially black women. It considers the role of school in female students' identity finding, and also the role of media, which is unavoidable and is perpetuating socially established patriarchal norms. The term critical media literacy is described because it is seen as a key in general students' literacy teaching for the sake of participating in today's world.
