Experimental study on the ectopia osteogenesised by small intestinal submucosa combined with bone marrow stem cells (BMSCs) in vivo

2008
Objective To observe the ectopia osteogenesis of the tissue engineered bone periosteum which constructed by small intestinal submucosa(SIS) combined with bone marrow stem cells(BMSCs) in vivo. Methods Conventional methods of cultivating the BMSCs with SIS composite (M1),and for induced osteoblast BMSCs with SIS Composite (M2) implanted into muscular pouch of thigh of rabbits (n=8)and SIS alone was implanted as a control. The effectiveness of bone formation was assessed after implantation for 4,8,12 weeks. Results The cells grew and attached very good on SIS.After operation,Masson stain showed the mean bone formation in group M2,M1,SIS was (25.08±0.79)%,(18.81±0.42)% and (13.98±1.86)% on 4,8 and 12 week. The group M2 was higher than group M1 or SIS (P 0.05).Conclusion The tissue engineered bone periosteum which constructed by BMSCs combined with SIS has abilities of ectopia osteogenesis in vivo. Moreover, bone formation of after induction was more visible.
