Investigation of corrosion properties of electron beam additive manufactured AA5356

2020
In this paper, the corrosion resistance of 5356 alloy samples produced using additive electron beam technology was explored. The printed samples were of different composition of the main alloying element—magnesium. It is observed that with an increase in the magnesium content in the samples, the polarization behavior of the samples worsens, reducing not only the potential for corrosion, but also significantly changing the corrosion current. It is shown that the area of corroded surfaces changes linearly with changes in the magnesium content in alloy 5356.
