Centrally Based Neuro-visual Disorders: A Window to Consciousness

2016
The link between visual perception and consciousness is extremely complex. We are neither aware of the complex processes involved in visual perception, nor of the fact that we learn to see, nor do we realize that the scene that we have in front our eyes does not correspond to external reality. In the same way, there exists a dissociation between vision and consciousness following brain damage, the understanding of which has clinical and fundamental implications.
