Radiative transfer within porous media and couplings

2015
A statistical approach developed by the authors allows the extinction, absorption and scattering properties of the different phases of a porous material to be exhaustively characterized by statistical radiative distribution functions for extinction, absorption and scattering and by a general phase function. All these advanced radiative properties can be calculated from high resolution tomography data or from the exact knowledge of the geometrical configuration of the porous medium. In this contribution, we present how to take these statistical radiative distribution functions into account in a radiative heat transfer calculation, and also how to couple this radiative transfer with other heat transfer modes (in particular conduction) taking place within the porous medium.
