Which one to move into? The spatiotemporal coverage examination of logistics facilities in Beijing

2021
The outward migration of logistics facilities is a common phenomenon in metropolitans worldwide. When logistics firms need to move into logistics facilities planned by local policy authorities, which one to move into is a key issue facing them. This study aims at evaluating location superiorities to help logistics firms achieve better relocation decision. We use a cumulative-opportunity accessibility method to measure the potential customer opportunities and spatial service areas covered by each logistics facility within different isochrones. With the quantitative comparison of different facilities and the consideration of actual policy strategies, we put forward some strategies of relocation and time management for logistics firms in Beijing. For example, it is more beneficial for logistics firms located at Yuegezhuang to move into Jinnan logistics base and make their trucks depart from there about 30 minutes earlier. This study demonstrates the utility of cumulative-opportunity accessibility in urban freight field and the identification of logistics facilities with poor spatiotemporal coverage provides a direction for the further promotion of sustainability development in Beijing city.
