Application of Multispectral Photos in Air Pollutant Detection

2020
There are many pollutants in the air, among which the dust-like objects floating in the air called suspended Particulate Matter (PM). Based on the diameter of the PM, this study makes a distinction in particle sizes smaller than PM2.5 which is the wildfire smoke and particle sizes between PM10~PM100 which is the floating dust and sand in the air. This study uses a reflection multispectral camera which captures information in five spectral bands. Investigation of the photos reveals that the Rededge and NIR bands easily pass through the finer smoke particles. This study believes that the particle size of air pollutants is the decisive factor whether each spectrum can pass through or reflect.
