Real-time simulation platform for inland ship maneuvering

2011
According to the MMG non-linear model, a real-time simulation platform for inland ship maneuvering is developed based on Visual Basic. The real-time output and display of curves concerned main navigation parameters such as run time, rudder angle, drift angle, heading, speed and corresponding positions can be achieved on the simulation platform. Meanwhile, the display of ship's route and attitude can also be obtained. Various tests of ship maneuvering simulation including turning circle, zig-zag maneuvering on still water are carried out, which showed that the results are satisfactory by analyzing the simulation precision. Besides, this simulation platform is feasible on design and convenient for operation. Furthermore, it is valuable for practical application to inland ship design and navigation safety. In addition, it is foreseen that the platform will be more heavily used as its development becomes more sophisticated and user friendly.
