UV-B (ultraviolet-B) emitting Gd3+ activated Ba2SiO4 phosphor prepared by sol-gel method

2020
Abstract UV-B light-emitting Gd activated Ba2SiO4 phosphor was synthesized by sol-gel method. The experimental techniques such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), photoluminescence (PL), and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy were employed to characterize the prepared sample. UV-B luminescence band was observed at 314 nm (6P7/2→8S7/2) under UV excitation (273 nm). EPR measurements show the distorted orthorhombic symmetry around Gd3+ ions due to the existence of cationic exchange disorder in crystal lattice.
