Composition factors affecting resistance of Ni-Cr-Mo-N alloys to crevice corrosion

1992
Previously obtained crevice corrosion data using six major classes of stainless steels and alloys were analyzed in terms of a known correlation between alloy composition and localized corrosion susceptibility. The correlation is noticeably improved when nickel content is introduced into the equation with a negative coefficient, in addition to the traditional chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen components. Implications of a possibly negative effect of nickel on the localized corrosion resistance are briefly discussed
