Sensorless Speed Control of High-Speed Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor based on Model Reference Adaptive System

In this paper, a model reference adaptive system (MRAS) is implemented for speed control of sensorless high-speed permanent magnet synchronous motor (HS-PMSM). Associated with vector control, the MRAS speed estimator and the Popov hyper-stability theory is utilized to design the HS-PMSM control system. The responses of HS-PMSM speed and current are studied during different conditions of speed reference and load torque variations. Meanwhile, robustness against the parameter perturbation of stator resistance, inductance and controller parameters are proven in this study. The control performance comparative studies between the introduced MRAS estimator and the actual motor model are evaluated in Matlab/Simulink software. The effectiveness of the sensorless HS-PMSM speed control based on MRAS is validated.
