Method for updating handheld device software

The invention relates to a method for updating handheld device software. A user can store the software with updated version into a file system of a memory which can be an auxiliary memory such as T card and the like, or a nonvolatile memory chip such as NOR FLASH, NAND FLASH and the like, and a handheld device can be used for opening and reading files with software version to be updated of the file system inside the memory to conduct update. When the software is updated, the method particularly comprises the following steps: 1) appointing the files with software version to be updated by the user, and rebooting the system; 2) updating program initialization handheld device hardware drive program; 3) updating an program initialization file system; 4) opening the software with the updated version, and judging whether the version is matched with the hardware system of the handheld device; if yes, executing update; and if not, finishing update program; and 5) reading version data from version files by updated program for update. The method simplifies the update and upgrade of system software of the handheld device and improves convenience.
