Integrated Analysis of Seismic and CSEM Attributes to Reduce Exploration Risk

2015
Combining CSEM edge-detection and seismic volumetric attributes, together with depth imaging, promises to improve the identification of potentially significant prospects for hydrocarbon exploration. For the first time, we successfully applied such an approach to data from offshore Sabah. We found consistent seismic and CSEM attribute anomalies in the two study areas of exploration interest. We mapped thrust features, channels and fan lobes consistent with published work but also in greater detail than before. We conclude that this attribute integration approach is more effective than the conventional separate seismic or CSEM applications. This methodology can be applied in other regions to reduce risk in the exploration for hydrocarbons.
