This article discusses the potential of CMC to contribute to the development process. It contends that the social attributes of CMC values of the larger society in which it is used. Socio-cultural value orientations which seem to favour CMC use in Western societies and organizations are contrasted with those prevalent in non-Western societies and organizations. The article concludes with suggestions for the application of a systems approach to the introduction of CMC to developing countries
