Systematic hybrid modeling method for analysis of electromagnetic susceptibility in electronics system

2015
This paper presents a systematic hybrid modeling method for electromagnetic susceptibility analysis of electronics system in the presence of ambient electromagnetic interference (EMI). The electronics equipment/system comprises of sensitive data nets, high-speed components, shielding enclosures, and cables connected to the system. Due to complex structure and multi-scales geometry, a systematic hybrid approach is proposed to use multiple modeling techniques to analyze the different regions of the electronics system. The proposed methodology is capable of simplifying the system into equivalent models of cables, shielding enclosures and printed circuit boards, which enables the system-level electromagnetic susceptibility (EMS) analyses to be carried out through a series of computer simulations with minimal resources. A practical scenario for the simulation case demonstrates that this systematic hybrid approach is an efficient method to address the EMS problems at system level, in which the external EMI effects are fully considered and the circuit-based simulator is also exploited.
