2010
According to the empirical research in Yinchuan City, this paper analyzes the gender differences of demands for city or community life from the perspective of feminist including public transport, business services, municipal facilities, education, cultural and sports facilities, green open spaces and public health on the basis of the introduction of western feminist geography and the study on the behavior space and demands for life in urban areas.Through the analysis of questionnaire, this paper summarizes some gender differences characteristics of demands for city life. The demands of male residents are always been considered more,so they are relatively more satisfied with the facilities including higher sensitivity for traffic, greater use of private cars and more inclined to the outskirts of a beautiful environment.Female residents rely more on public transport, and public service facilities. They have more concern about the needs of family members, the positive response to urban problems in the community management and higher requirements for public space. The paper explores the living status of China women, their evaluation and expectations for the infrastructure, and reveals the situation that women's demands and gender differences are neglected in the planning and construction of cities and communities. In the end,the paper puts forward suggestions on planning of community construction that based on gender differences, and the principles of equality between men and women, which are more concerning about public transport and traffic planning for walk, stress the construction of public facilities and diversity of human nature, increase community services and raise the female residents of the community involvement. The studies on city life from gender differences perspective are new attempts,so there are many questions emphasized on the phenomenon analysis and the theories needs to be developed in the future.
